What Are Verrucas ?
A verruca is a wart that commonly forms on the soles of your feet. They tend to be flat, due to the pressure placed on them when walking. The medical name for a verruca is plantar wart. Sometimes, you may notice a small black dot in the center of the growth – this is where tiny blood vessels have clotted on the surface of your skin.
What Causes Verrucas ?
Warts and verrucas are caused by a virus. They can be spread to other people through close contact or by touching contaminated surfaces. If your skin is wet or damaged, you’re more likely to spread the virus. It can take several months for a wart or verruca to appear after exposure to the virus.
Do Need To Get My Verrucae Removed ?
Verrucas are more likely to need treatment because they often make walking painful: the verruca is pressed into the sensitive flesh of your foot when you stand or walk.
On balance it is usually only worth treating a wart or verruca if it is troublesome. For example, if it is painful or you find it ugly and conspicuous.
